Port of Promise

An exhibition at The Bryan Museum, Galveston, Texas

Port of Promise exhibit at The Bryan Museum

Port of Promise is a new exhibition at The Bryan Museum in Galveston, Texas, examining how Jewish immigrants helped shape Texas from the early 1800s through the early twentieth century. The exhibition highlights Jewish pioneers' contributions across philanthropy, business, banking, medicine, and ranching.

A central focus of the exhibition is the Galveston Movement (1907–1914), when the Port of Galveston served as an alternative entry point for persecuted Jewish refugees from Eastern Europe. The initiative helped nearly 10,000 immigrants with travel and new lives further inland, in Texas and beyond.

The exhibition runs November 7, 2026 through January 31, 2027 at The Bryan Museum, 1315 21st Street, Galveston, Texas 77550.
